SummaryThe Forklift Material Handler loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near the center, cross dock, trailers, yard, or work site by performing the following duties.
ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES included the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
- Receives items for shipment, inspects visually for identity, quantity, and condition. Checks for obvious damage and segregates items requiring special handling.
- Opens containers as directed by work instructions or supervisor.
- Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks and shelves by hand or with forklift or other handling equipment.
- Loads materials into carrier vehicles and installs loading tools to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
- Completes receiving and shipping documents accurately and completely via Pro Trans specifications.
- Completes receiving and shipping activities with use of mobile scanner.
- Identify all shipments by proper marking and labeling, including special handling instructions.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Conduct safety and equipment checks daily.
- Operates machinery such as banding, taping, and sealing.
- Follow all safety procedures. Actively works to improve individual and center safety record.
- Provides ideas or feedback to identify continual improvement initiatives to enhance the performance of the position, team, and company.

Education and/or ExperienceHigh School diploma or general education degree (GED); or 6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and write in English is required. Bilingual English/Spanish is desired in some centers.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer SkillsAble to use scanning equipment.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsMust pass the Protrans Forklift Performance Test.
Physical DemandsThe employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and talk. The employee must use both feet and legs when operating a forklift as well as both hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees must be able to hear in order to perform their essential job functions. Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to hear other forklifts, individuals that may be nearby, and the common noises of the environment around them at all times.
Environment
The worker is regularly exposed to extreme outside weather conditions. The worker is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
