Part-Time Flex Laborer: 3rd Shift

Overview

As a Smokehouse General Production team member at Smithfield Foods, you will deliver safe, high‑quality food by operating machinery, pushing heavy materials, and using large industrial ovens to prepare meat products. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and teamwork.

• Operate machinery and large industrial ovens to prepare meat products.
• Perform tasks requiring continuous or repetitive movement, such as grasping, pinching, flexing, and extending arms, and lifting heavy materials.
• Stand on concrete or platforms for up to a 12‑hour shift.
• Work with animal blood, carcass parts, and in wet or humid environments.
• Work in cold areas (approx. 20–40 °F) or hot areas (over 100 °F) as required.
• Wear hard hats, hearing/eye protection, steel‑toed safety shoes, and other PPE.
• Operate sanitation and cleaning chemicals.
• Work on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways and platforms.
• Use mechanical assistance to lift or move heavy objects up to 60 lbs.
• Track and document cooking cycles and maintain production records.
• Maintain a safe and efficient production line and support coworkers.

• Ability to read, write and communicate in English (computer system use, written documents, and clear communication with supervisors).
• Physical fitness: lift up to 30 lbs overhead, single lifts up to 60 lbs, and perform repetitive movements throughout an 8‑ to 12‑hour shift.
• Good hand‑eye coordination and ability to work in cold (20–40 °F) and hot (over 100 °F) environments.
• Comfortable working on concrete or platforms and in wet, humid, or noisy conditions.
• Willingness to work a scheduled shift, including overtime as production demands.
• For specific positions, a certification to operate certain equipment may be required.

Competitive hourly starting pay: $20.10 / hr. Shift differential: $1.25 / hr for 3rd shift positions.
