Our client, a global leader in advanced manufacturing and powertrain technologies, seeks an experienced Associate Director of Plant Maintenance to lead maintenance and reliability operations in a highly automated manufacturing facility. The role demands driving Operational Excellence, Lean Manufacturing, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) across a diverse portfolio of equipment.
Position SummaryThis is a hands‑on leadership role requiring immediate assessment of current systems, opportunity identification, and implementation of change. The Associate Director will oversee salaried and hourly maintenance teams, champion TPM and Operational Excellence initiatives, and direct maintenance strategy, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement efforts.
Required Experience- 10+ years in manufacturing maintenance
- 5+ years managing maintenance teams in industrial manufacturing
- Experience leading salaried and hourly maintenance personnel
- Proven success implementing Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Experience developing and managing preventive and predictive maintenance programs
- Demonstrated success improving equipment reliability and maintenance KPIs
- Strong background supporting CNC machining and automated manufacturing equipment
- Industry experience:
Automotive, Powertrain/Transmission, Aerospace, Defense, Agricultural Equipment, Heavy Industrial Manufacturing - TPM implementation
- Union manufacturing environments
- Robotics and automation
- CNC equipment
- PLC controls
- Heat treat operations
- Precision machining and gear manufacturing
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Supervisors, Maintenance Planners, and Maintenance/Reliability Engineers
- Provide indirect leadership to 40+ hourly maintenance employees (5‑7 direct reports)
- Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
- Drive employee engagement, performance management, and career development
- Foster cross‑functional partnerships with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and high‑performing work environment
- Develop and execute maintenance strategies that improve equipment uptime and overall plant performance
- Lead preventive, predictive, and scheduled maintenance programs to reduce emergency downtime
- Improve equipment reliability through disciplined root cause analysis and permanent corrective actions
- Optimize spare parts management and maintenance planning processes

- Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF)
- Preventive Maintenance Compliance
- Units Per Hour (UPH)
- Serve as the site champion for TPM, leading pillars including Planned Maintenance, Autonomous Maintenance, Focused Improvement, Equipment Reliability
- Coach teams on Lean Manufacturing principles and problem‑solving methodologies
- Lead Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives
- Utilize structured problem‑solving tools:
Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, 4D/8D, A3 Problem Solving - Partner with operations leaders to support the plant's Operational Excellence strategy
- Develop and maintain positive relationships within a union manufacturing environment
- Participate in grievance resolution and labor discussions
- Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements
- Union experience is preferred but not required
Associate degree in Maintenance, Engineering Technology, or related technical field – or – Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
