Location: New Carlisle

Responsibilities

  • Lead the production workforce in the manufacturing of New Carlyle products, meeting specified schedules, productivity, and quality objectives.
  • Report production, material, and manpower usage, equipment, and process problems on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Maintain product integrity by ensuring compliance with established manufacturing and/or quality specifications.
  • Promote a teamwork approach among shift employees and between functions.
  • Accomplish required duties through cooperative efforts with maximum employee participation in decision making.
  • Train production team members to perform job requirements safely and effectively, in accordance with established standard operating procedures.
  • Operate the facility raw‑material batching systems.
  • Coordinate assigned maintenance assistance to prevent or repair equipment malfunctions or damage, minimizing downtime.
  • Recommend improvements and/or modifications to equipment, processes, and procedures to increase productivity and efficiency.
  • Provide input to the Production Manager for regular team meetings to share information, discuss problems, priorities, opportunities, resolve conflicts, and develop team building.
  • Monitor personnel and equipment for unsafe acts or conditions and correct them immediately.
  • Provide leadership to the Furnacing team and plant‑wide involvement groups to drive continuous improvement in the facility.
  • Responsible for payroll functions for employees in the Furnacing department (reviewing/approving time‑off requests, time‑card review/approval, etc.).
  • Assist Technical and Marketing in new product testing and development, process improvement implementation, and initiation of plant‑system and equipment improvements.
  • Work overtime as required to provide shift coverage for vacations, start‑up of additional manufacturing processes, and other duties as assigned.
  • Drive safety strategy in alignment with the site safety strategy, leading continuous improvement of safety culture and systems.
  • Support employees in removing barriers to drive safety improvements.
  • Conduct Safety Gemba (Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma), verifying safe behaviors, correcting physical hazards, and validating adherence to policies.
  • Manage people by defining and enforcing clear areas of ownership and accountability, allocating resources effectively, and building a high‑performing team.
  • Conduct monthly coaching sessions with direct reports to develop leadership and achieve results.
  • Demonstrate integrity through behavior and encourage others to do the same; be relied upon to do the right thing.
  • Drive quality in collaboration with the Quality Manager to execute a quality improvement plan, address short‑ and long‑term improvements to reduce customer complaints, and manage adherence to departmental quality control plans.
  • Ensure process capability and minimize process scrap through the use of suitable problem‑solving methodology.
  • Drive operational performance and control cost by achieving departmental performance targets that reduce cost of production (OEE, labor efficiency, weekly absorption), ensuring continuous improvement methodology across the department, and meeting/exceeding cost‑saving targets.
  • Work with the Maintenance Manager to improve engineering reliability and achieve targets.
  • Work with the Production Planning Department to ensure customer satisfaction with OTIF efficiency.
Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalency is required.

Experience
  • 3+ years of related experience focused within Manufacturing Operations as a leader, particularly in continuous, high‑volume operation.
  • Knowledge of supply chain, planning and logistics activities.
  • Experience of practical application of Lean, TPM and/or Six Sigma tools.
  • Experience of responsibility for departmental safety and quality aspects of operations.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of computers and computer programs.
  • Must be able to function as a member of a team and be able to work under general supervision.
  • Self‑starter capable of operating independently.
  • Must be able to maintain expected quality levels.
  • Comply with all site required policies and procedures.
