Machinist II – 2nd Shift (Onsite, Indianapolis, IN)

Job Overview

The role requires complete CNC machine set‑up, including advanced editing, programming, operation, and preventative maintenance on milling centers, lathes, and other manual machines.

Responsibilities
  • Complete setup including programming (Fanuc Controls or G Code preferred), editing, operation and preventative maintenance on CNC milling centers, CNC lathes and/or CNC mills.
  • Perform offsets, fixturing and recognize signs of tool wear and poor finish and make adjustments to correct.
  • Follow all safety and quality procedures and standards and participate in efforts to improve processes, product flow and work standards.
  • Complete required paperwork (manual and electronic) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of equipment and work area.
  • Promote teamwork and communicate in conjunction with our culture and corporate standards (Safety/Environmental, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Communication, Internal Controls, etc.).
  • Verify conformance of finished work piece to prints and specifications and perform secondary operations such as debur, chip removal, bushing, tapping, drilling, etc.
  • Provide training and instruction to other employees as required; perform manual and electronic record keeping and information retrieval functions.
  • Wear required safety PPE.
  • Inspect area in accordance with 5S principles.
  • Ensure daily machine and crane PMs are being completed.
  • Understand SAP confirmations and insure process is followed.
  • Study blueprints, drawings, specifications, etc. to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.

Posting, Reporting, and Work Relations

Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with internal customers of the production parts. Paperwork and software must be completed correctly to allow others who have a part in the order’s completion to understand the production order to completion.

Work Conditions
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, squat, sit, walk, and stand for at least 8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to work overtime when required.
  • Non‑climate controlled facility.
Background
  • High School Diploma, GED/HSE/HiSET or equivalent
    * required.
  • Additional technical training
    * much preferred.
  • 2–4 years manual machining (including but not limited to mills, drills and grinders) experience
    * much preferred.
  • 1–3 years CNC programming, operation and setup with various controls including Fanuc, Mazatrol, and Allen/Bradley on CNC milling centers, lathes or mills
    * much preferred.
  • Experience doing precision machining using manual machines such as threading, boring and grooving
    * much preferred.
Competencies
  • Material handling equipment operation (lift truck, two‑wheeled truck, carts, etc.).
  • Cranes, hoist, screw jacks, hydraulic jacks.
  • Manual, power‑driven, and pneumatic hand tools: electronic engraver, power saw, cutoff wheel, grinders, hydraulic press, radial drill, arbor press, arc welding, acetylene cutting equipment, threading machine.
  • Precision measuring instruments, gages, meters.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to read and apply mathematics to work from engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Basic understanding of the fundamentals of electricity.
