Position Overview

The Entry Level Dimensional Inspector is responsible for performing inspections on products and components to ensure they meet safety and quality standards. This role involves setting up and performing various in-process and final inspections, accepting or rejecting items based on stringent criteria. The technician interprets complex manufacturing prints and evaluates machine setups, adjusting when necessary. Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and conducting resistance, ultrasonic, and magnetic induction testing is essential.

Accurate record‑keeping and effective collaboration with leadership to address potential issues are vital. Attention to detail is crucial for identifying defects and ensuring overall inspection compliance. Must be able to work any shift or schedule, including 2nd shift and weekend shift (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Training for the position will occur on 1st shift and will take between 6 months and 1 year to complete.

Your Day to Day as an Entry Level Dimensional Inspector
  • Performs all work safely, working within established procedures and using a questioning attitude to prevent and stop unsafe work conditions.
  • Sets up and performs any/all types of in-process and final inspections on any/all products and component parts.
  • Inspects, accepts or rejects all products and components, fabricated or in process.
  • Inspects machine setups, surveys workpiece, makes necessary corrections and approves the same when required.
  • Interprets manufacturing prints, sketches and printed material descriptions of any complexity.
  • Inspects for tolerance, finish size, proper assembly, code drawing and customer specifications, approving or rejecting the same.
  • Makes sketches, fills out inspection forms (Rapid Response Plan), and advises supervisor as to reason for acceptance or rejection of part.
  • Uses all types of precision measuring instruments including measurement standards, gauges, air gauging equipment, optical comparators, concentricity gauges, granite surface plates, computerized inspection equipment, coordinate measuring machine, vision system, bore scopes and CRTs.
  • Performs resistance testing as required.
  • Performs UT and magnetic induction testing for thickness as required.
  • Stencils and identifies as required.
  • Makes and checks layouts.
  • Verifies completeness of shop and inspection operations and nondestructive tests when required.
  • Receives instruction from leader, salaried personnel or employee being assisted.
  • Complies with all safety and plant rules, regulations and practices.
  • Maintains necessary records.
  • Hooks up and moves material, equipment and products to and from work area and building by hand or using material handling equipment, including floor operated cranes.
  • Works from prints, code specification booklets, sketches, process sheets, layout templates, written and verbal instructions, etc.
  • Keeps own work area, machinery and equipment clean and orderly. Detects and reports faulty operations and defective material.
  • Reports print errors and/or errors in written and verbal instructions.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related job experience, preferably in a close tolerance manufacturing or fabrication environment OR certification from an accredited program related to the job.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations for the validation/verification of dimensional relationships.
  • Must possess skills necessary to maintain accurate documentation of inspection data.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications in established time frames, including successful completion of all visual/dimensional written and operational examinations, as well as personal vision screenings.
  • Ability to work any shift, including nights and weekends.
  • Must successfully complete a pre‑employment check and drug screening.
  • Position may require obtaining and maintaining applicable federal eligibility requirements for access to classified or sensitive information.
