Responsibilities
- Operate and control the electric arc furnaces and auxiliary equipment used in manufacturing ceramic fiber products, ensuring desired product quality and quantity.
- Direct, set up and control auxiliary equipment such as slit/cut machines, baggers, fiber opener, carton erector, roll shredder, and other related equipment.
- Monitor product specifications to maintain desired quality standards.
- Prepare containers, packs, and labels for finished goods.
- Operate forklifts, bobcat, and other power material handling equipment.
- Prepare production reports and packaging documentation for each job order.
- Make minor equipment adjustments for weight and sizing.
- Troubleshoot minor maintenance problems.
- Assist in operation of automated material handling systems.
- Stage packaging and finished goods on the production line.
- Maintain working knowledge of product quality specifications.
- Work effectively in a team environment.
- Direct and train personnel with lower skill levels.
- Maintain a clean, safe, orderly workplace and comply with all fire and safety regulations.
- Use small hand tools and perform repetitive bending, lifting, and climbing, with weight ranges of 25–60 lbs for bags and 15–200 lbs for rolls.
- Access information through computer databases.
- Climb ladders and stairs as needed.
- Use the Adaptive Coaching process for communication, goal alignment, problem solving, and career planning.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
- Key contributor to departmental safety strategy aligned with the Site Safety Strategy.
- Own excellence in safety culture and systems; safety is the #1 focus.
- Support other employees in removing barriers to drive safety improvements.
- Participate in Safety Gemba (Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma), verifying safe behaviors, correcting hazards, and validating adherence to policies.
- Collaborate with employees to execute quality improvement initiatives.
- Address short‑ and long‑term improvements to reduce customer complaints.
- Contribute to the departmental Quality Control Plan using leading indicators such as Process Capability.
- Own conformance standards to customer specifications.
- Assist in problem‑solving methodology to reduce variability in manufacturing processes and minimize scrap.
- High‑school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic math and reading comprehension skills.
- Ability to learn and access information via computer databases.
- Knowledge of all “B” Operator jobs and quality products.
- Completion of training program to become a qualified “A” Operator.
- Upon training completion, bid directly to an “A” Trainee position.

Physical RequirementsMust perform duties requiring small hand tools, repetitive hand and arm movements, lift up to 80 lbs without assistance, work up to a height of 5 ft. Possible exposure to heat, cold, steam, and wet environments. Stand and work for up to 12 hours per scheduled workday. Repetitive stair and ladder climbing.
