Why join Major Tool & Machine?

Major Tool & Machine is a long-established Indianapolis contract manufacturer where complex, mission-critical components and assemblies come together under one roof. Founded in 1946 and now part of Precinmac, Major Tool operates a 650,000-square-foot manufacturing campus supported by hundreds of skilled employees.

This first-shift Assembly Team Leader role offers a chance to lead people, solve technical production problems, and directly influence safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency. You will be a working resource for the team—not simply an administrator—helping employees get the material, instructions, technical support, and priorities they need to succeed.

What you’ll be doing
  • Lead assembly personnel to produce quality work safely, on time, and within planned hours
  • Plan jobs, review priority dispatch lists, and assign employees based on skill and workload
  • Attend production-control, pre-release planning, and job-release meetings
  • Troubleshoot shop-floor issues and provide hands‑on technical support
  • Determine overtime needs, obtain approval, and arrange schedules
  • Evaluate employee skills and performance, provide feedback, and support accountability
  • Help hire, train, and develop team members
  • Investigate nonconformances, overruns, accidents, and incidents and implement corrective actions
  • Review team labor charges and maintain 6S and Lean Manufacturing standards
Shop highlights
  • Manufacturing in Indianapolis since 1946
  • 650,000-square-foot manufacturing facility
  • Complex machining, fabrication, inspection, finishing, assembly, and testing under one roof
  • First‑shift leadership opportunity with annual bonus potential
  • Technical role with real responsibility for people, priorities, quality, and delivery
  • Training and educational‑assistance programs that support career growth
What we’re looking for

Required:
  • Prior management or leadership experience with direct responsibility for a team
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude
  • Ability to plan work, assign personnel, troubleshoot production issues, and hold employees accountable
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to read technical information and work safely in a manufacturing environment
Preferred:
  • Trade‑school, vocational‑school, or relevant college education
  • CNC machining experience
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and 6S practices
Why you’ll like working here
  • Three medical‑plan options, including a base option with no employee premium
  • Dental and vision coverage
  • On‑site health clinic, mental‑health services, fitness center, and wellness events
  • 401(k) company match and employer HSA contributions for eligible plans
  • Immediate paid‑time‑off availability and 10 paid holidays
  • Educational assistance and in‑house training
  • Company‑paid short‑and long‑term disability and life insurance
