AERODYN ENGINEERING CNC Machinist/On Machine Programmer

Indianapolis, IN|1st or 2nd Shift|Full-Time

About the Role

Aerodyn Engineering is looking for a CNC Machinist/On Machine Programmer to machine tight-tolerance, high-complexity aerospace hardware — parts held to tolerances as tight as .0005″–.005″, in materials like Hastelloy, Inconel, and 17-4 PH. This is a hands-on role: you'll read the blueprint, write or adjust the program at the machine, set up the tooling, and measure your own work before it moves to the next operation.

What You'll Do
  • Read blueprints and job routers to hit tight dimensional tolerances on complex aerospace hardware.
  • Write and adjust CNC programs at the machine using Mastercam and Solidworks.
  • Perform machine setups with a range of tooling — soft/hard jaws, collet chucks, specialty fixtures.
  • Machine and deliver high-quality parts in demanding aerospace materials (Hastelloy, Inconel, 17-4 PH, etc.).
  • Program feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to match material specs and tooling guidelines.
  • Measure finished parts using CMM, calipers, bore gages, pins, and micrometers before handoff.
  • Identify and stage tooling ahead of each setup to avoid machine downtime.
  • Partner with Manufacturing on troubleshooting, time estimates, and creative fixturing solutions.
  • Keep ERP documentation and time entry current for accurate scheduling.
What Makes You a Fit
  • 3–5+ years of machinist experience in an R&D or low-volume manufacturing environment; aerospace experience strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable across conventional and CNC machines, and familiar with welding equipment.
  • Solid working knowledge of G & M code programming (Mastercam/NX).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a knack for creative problem-solving under tight tolerances.
  • Self-directed, able to deliver under pressure and hit customer/management deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.
What You'll Have
  • A shop full of experienced machinists and support staff who know this work inside and out.
  • Real ownership over your setups — you decide the approach, the tooling, and the process.
  • Complex, meaningful aerospace work, not repetitive commodity parts.
Requirements
  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of machinist experience in an R&D manufacturing environment.
  • Aerospace industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of G & M code programming (Mastercam/NX).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to develop creative solutions to problems.
  • Self-directed, professional, and comfortable operating independently and within a team.
  • Minimum travel required.
