The Public Relations Assistant helps handle day-to-day media content creation and public communications. This is a great entry-level opportunity to gain hands-on experience in government communications, media relations, and storytelling while contributing to the Office of the Indiana Attorney General’s mission.

  • Capture and edit videos and photos at events, press conferences, community outreach, and office activities to support communications efforts;
  • Write and draft press releases and short statements under guidance;
  • Create engaging social media content (posts, captions, graphics ideas) for platforms like X/Twitter and Facebook to share office updates and initiatives;
  • Assist in monitoring local and state news, current events, and social media mentions related to the Attorney General and office priorities;
  • Help prepare monthly newsletters and other basic communications materials;
  • Support coordination of media-related activities, such as assisting with press events or distributing materials;
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with the Attorney General, team members, media contacts, and thepublic;
  • Works well under pressure and handles stress;
  • Accepts performance-based criticism and direction; and
  • Performs other communications duties as assigned.
  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism,public relationsor a closely related field preferred, but not required, including strong academic credentials;
  • 1-3 years of related experience;
  • Comfortable shooting/editing video and taking photos;
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Understanding of print, broadcast, and online media;
  • Interest in social media content creation and basic editing tools;
  • Knowledge of current issues and events in which the Attorney General is involved;
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer skills; and
  • Ability to meet deadlines, accept feedback. and work in a team setting.
