Position SummaryThe Volunteer Coordinator is the heartbeat of our Indianapolis volunteer program. This role is responsible for building and sustaining a vibrant community of dedicated volunteers who make our mission possible — managing every aspect of volunteer engagement from recruitment through recognition, while creating a joyful, welcoming, and organized environment for volunteers at every level.
Key ResponsibilitiesRecruitment & Onboarding
- Manage the full volunteer intake process, including application review, screening, and placement
- Develop and facilitate onboarding and training for new volunteers
- Recruit and schedule volunteer drivers
- Create and expand volunteer roles and identify new opportunities for meaningful engagement
- Maintain accurate service hour records and administer volunteer awards and milestones
- Develop and maintain the volunteer activity calendar
- Troubleshoot and resolve scheduling conflicts and last-minute cancellations, including covering open shifts as needed
- Supervise volunteer shifts Monday through Thursday
- Send monthly volunteer newsletters and weekly announcements
- Conduct regular check-ins with volunteers to ensure satisfaction, address concerns, and strengthen retention
- Plan and execute volunteer appreciation events, including the annual brunch
- Genuine enthusiasm for the RAFI mission and a joyful, people-first approach. Smiles really are contagious here
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work with diverse populations with patience, empathy, and care
- Solution-oriented mindset with strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
- Proficiency in Google Suite and comfort with current technology and apps
- Accurate data entry skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to stand for up to 6 hours per day and lift up to 40 lbs
- Availability Monday through Thursday
- Previous experience working with volunteers
- Experience with Bloomerang Volunteer
$21–$24 per hour, based on experience
