As part of the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity (DNPA), the Commodities Program Coordinator supports the daily operations and administration of two of Indiana’s USDA‑funded food assistance programs— The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). This role provides state‑level oversight that includes program management, budget administration, technical assistance, training, and compliance monitoring.
The coordinator ensures alignment with federal and state policies and serves as a key liaison among stakeholders, particularly food banks and community organizations, that serve individuals seeking food assistance.
- Provide direct technical assistance and support to participating food banks and community agencies, serving as the primary consultant for both programs
- Manage various systems, including USDA’s Web‑Based Supply Chain Management (WBSCM) system, the Food Programs Reporting System (FPRS), and Share Point
- Monitor food banks, food pantries, distribution sites, and contracted organizations to ensure compliance with program requirements and completion of audit reports
- Develop and disseminate program policies, procedures, and training for local agencies
- Act as liaison between USDA‑FNA, warehouse distributors, and participating agencies
- Complete timely and accurate monthly reporting and evaluation
- Host monthly program meetings and quarterly workgroup meetings
- Track USDA Foods inventory and manage transfers, losses, and overages
- Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years in federal/state compliance, grant management, or inventory systems
- Knowledge of emergency food assistance and food access landscape in Indiana
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills
- Ability to interpret technical and financial materials
- Capacity to work independently and travel statewide (~30% of time)
- Initiative to evaluate and implement any necessary program and/or process modifications
This is a hybrid position that will require the candidate to report to the IDOH office in downtown Indianapolis 3 days per week, with the option of working remotely 2 days per week. Laptop and reimbursement for job‑related travel provided.
This is a contract position with a starting salary of $55,000–$60,000. Benefits are available through employment services provider (Computer Aid Inc.).
