SCHOOL BACKGROUND:

Seven Oaks Classical School is a growing public charter school that opened in the fall of 2016 and now serves over 565 students in grades K-12. Seven Oaks is affiliated with Hillsdale College’s Barney Charter School Initiative. Seven Oaks Classical School seeks to train the minds and improve the hearts of young people through a rigorous classical education in the liberal arts and sciences, with instruction in the principles of moral character and civic virtue.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Development is responsible for establishing and executing all fundraising processes for Seven Oaks Classical School. This role involves directly driving fundraising efforts, building relationships, and securing financial support to achieve the school's goals. The Director will develop strategies, manage campaigns, and actively solicit donations, while using a resourceful approach to maximize outcomes.

The position reports directly to the Headmaster of Seven Oaks.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Philanthropy - Development, Campaign Management, Annual Fund, Major Giving, Development Services, Alumni Relations
  • Develops and implements the overall fund development plan for Seven Oaks by integrating annual giving plans, major gift plans, and campaign plans.
  • Establishes and monitors metrics and measurements of success.
  • Ensures proper training and continual skill-improvement for related staff to assist in accomplishing departmental goals.
2. Grant Writing and Management
  • Identifies, researches, and applies for grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies to secure funding for Seven Oaks Classical School.
  • Develops and writes compelling grant proposals, ensuring alignment with funding guidelines and school priorities.
  • Manages grant reporting requirements, ensuring timely submission of progress reports and financial documentation.
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with grant funders.
3. Annual Fund
  • Plans and executes a strategic annual fundraising program to ensure Seven Oaks maximizes philanthropic support.
  • Leads donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewarding activities.
  • Analyzes major gifts potential by using research, reviewing opportunities within the existing donor base and by leveraging referral, trustee and staff contacts to reach out to prospective donors.
  • Assures that proper support infrastructure is in place to support the cultivation process, successful outcomes and ongoing relationship management.
4. Development Services
  • Provides leadership and direction for development services (gift entry, acknowledgement and receipting, biographical records management, prospect research, data analysis and integrity, reporting).
  • Oversees the adoption and ongoing use of a new CRM system.
  • Defines and monitors protocols and procedures to protect the integrity of data.
  • Provides analyses to help the Seven Oaks Headmaster and the Board of Trustees make informed decisions regarding development.
5. Professional Ethics and Constituent Confidentiality and Privacy
  • Consults and promotes the guidelines recommended by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Donor Bill of Rights and the CASE Ethics Guidelines.
Abilities and Skills
  • Demonstrated success in leading a strategic and effective giving program.
  • Demonstrated success in writing and acquiring grants.
  • Experience managing all tasks associated with academic fundraising.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative manner.
Competencies
  • An appreciation and understanding of the important mission of a classical K-12 school with a diverse population and an eagerness to be involved in the life of the school.
  • Understanding of Seven Oaks Classical School’s values, mission, culture, and strategic needs.
  • Broad knowledge of alumni relations best practices.
  • Providing leadership and motivation to others through communication, modeling appropriate behavior, optimism, and high achievement.
Qualifications
  • College degree.
  • Three to five years of related experience in fundraising or marketing.
  • Willingness to work weekends and evenings, with some travel to build the school’s network and community to support the mission of Seven Oaks.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and CRM applications.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary Range: $70,000 - $75,000 (Compensation is dependent on experience.)
