Position Summary
La Plaza, Inc., Central Indiana’s longest-standing Latino-serving nonprofit organization, seeks a dynamic and strategic Vice President of Communications & Development to lead the organization’s fundraising, marketing, communications, and community engagement efforts. La Plaza empowers Latino youth, families, and communities by increasing access to educational, workforce development, health, and social service opportunities throughout Central Indiana.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team on fundraising, marketing, external relations, and community engagement.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications and development plan aligned with La Plaza’s strategic priorities.
- Foster a culture of philanthropy across the organization.
- Establish annual revenue and communications goals and monitor performance against key metrics.
- Represent La Plaza with donors, community leaders, foundations, corporate partners, elected officials, and media outlets.
- Lead all fundraising efforts, including major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, corporate sponsor ships, foundation grants, and special campaigns.
- Build and manage a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects.
- Design and execute strategies to increase individual, corporate, and foundation support.
- Partner with the CEO and Board of Directors to cultivate and solicit major gifts.
- Oversee grant development, proposal writing, reporting, and stewardship activities.
- Identify and pursue new funding opportunities that support program growth and organizational sustainability.
- Monitor fundraising trends and implement best practices in nonprofit philanthropy.
- Ensure accurate donor records and effective use of CRM systems.
- Lead the development and execution of an integrated communications and marketing strategy.
- Strengthen La Plaza’s brand awareness and public profile throughout Central Indiana.
- Oversee website content, digital marketing, social media, email communications, and printed materials.
- Manage media relations and serve as a spokesperson when appropriate.
- Create compelling impact stories that highlight program outcomes, donor investment, and community impact.
- Develop bilingual communications strategies that effectively engage Latino families, donors, and community stakeholders.
- Ensure consistency of messaging and brand identity across all communication channels.
- Strengthen relationships with community organizations, corporations, foundations, and civic leaders.
- Oversee fundraising and community engagement events, sponsorship programs, and donor recognition activities.
- Support advocacy and awareness efforts that align with La Plaza’s mission and community priorities.
- Increase stakeholder engagement through strategic partnerships and public outreach.
- Lead and mentor communications and development staff.
- Create a high-performance culture focused on results, collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
- Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively.
- Coordinate closely with program leaders to communicate program impact and funding needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in fundraising, development, communications, or nonprofit management.
- Demonstrated success securing major gifts, grants, corporate sponsor ships, and campaign revenue.
- Experience developing and implementing strategic communications and marketing initiatives.
- Strong relationship-building, networking, and donor cultivation skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of donor database and CRM systems.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) credential.
- Experience working with Latino-serving organizations or multicultural communities.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Experience managing comprehensive fundraising campaigns exceeding $1 million annually.
