Shift Details: APS - Acute Pain Service. Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm. No call and we are closed the six major holidays each year! Full benefits included!

Ortho Indy Hospital Northwest, located in Indianapolis, Indiana, provides outpatient care and inpatient care, with 10 operating rooms, 2 procedure rooms and a 42-bed inpatient unit for patients undergoing more invasive procedures, such as disc replacement, spinal fusion or total hip and knee joint replacement. Other services include an urgent care, clinics, pre-op clinic, imaging and physical therapy.

General Statement of Duties:

The Registered Nurse APS provides nursing care and service during the preoperative and postoperative periods, integrating and making nursing judgments pertaining to the patient's condition on a routine and emergency basis. The position oversees the supervision of all non-licensed personnel, while also receiving direction from Physicians and Anesthesiologists and works with Anesthesiologist to provide conscious sedation for regional nerve block under ultrasound.

Essential Duties:
  • Monitors and assesses patient condition and reports any unusual symptoms, occurrences or discrepancies to manager and appropriate Physician and Anesthesiologists.
  • Completes treatments and procedures as ordered and assigned by the Physician and Anesthesiologists, consistent with patient complexity and commensurate with the skill, knowledge, and training of the individual.
  • Provides care safely, with adequate quality, quantity, and timeliness and according to applicable standards.
  • Admits patients to all areas within pre and post-operative and post-anesthesia services and acute pain services, and receives and/or reviews pre post-operative report.
  • Sets-up, operates and/or monitors the use of various systems, equipment and instrumentation required for the care of patients.
  • Reviews and initiates Physician's orders, administers medication, parenteral fluids and treatment as needed.
  • Maintains medication and nursing documentation within the patient record.
  • Provides instruction, information, and counseling to patients and their families as needed. Distributes educational material as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and development levels of patients served.
  • Works with Anesthesiologist to provide conscious sedation for regional nerve block under ultrasound.
  • Requirements:
    • Associate's Degree in Nursing required;
      Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred, either from a nationally accredited nursing program
    • Registered Nurse licensure required
    • BLS and ACLS required
    • 2-4 years of related experience in PACU, ICU, or ER required, 4-6 years of experience preferred
    • Conscious Sedation certification preferred
