Overview
Full‑time RN Patient Care Coordinator in the PACU at Methodist University. Responsible for ensuring patient care outcomes through coordinated nursing care and delivery of patient safety initiatives.
What you will do- Make rounds, ensuring care is delivered according to plan.
- Orchestrate patient flow and bed assignments within the shift.
- Assist with emergency situations, unit admissions/overload and support staff in direct care activities.
- Troubleshoot patient safety, assessment, and care issues during rounds and throughout shift.
- Ensure immediate response to patient and/or family concerns.
- Serve as primary point of contact for physicians and respond to physicians' needs.
- Make appropriate shift assignments; guide and collaborate with Case Managers to ensure patient resource use and movement.
- Support flow of information and communications among interdisciplinary teams.
- Delegate tasks appropriately and within licensure requirements.
- Participate in quality reviews for clinical care.
- Provide clinical leadership to Associates during the shift.
- Support Associates' development of skills and knowledge; provide first line feedback.
- Prepare and conduct performance evaluations with the Clinical Director.
- Create a positive work environment and contribute to Associate retention.
- Monitor general upkeep of the physical facilities and patient care equipment.
- Model behavior exemplified in the organization's mission, vision, and values.
- Post‑Graduate Certificate or Diploma in Nursing (preferred).
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- Registered Nursing experience: 1–3 years (minimum), with preference for at least 4 years of PACU experience.
- Registered Nurse license, Tennessee Board of Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association.
Skills and Abilities
- Clear and professional communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Assessment of team members' skills, appropriate delegation, and oversight to ensure high‑quality patient care.
- Familiarity with care coordination processes, discharge planning, and resource management.
- Strong knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act and scope of practice for an RN.
- Critical‑thinking ability to develop, implement, and support individualized care plans.
- Familiarity with healthcare technology that enhances patient safety and care efficiency (e.g., barcode scanning, electronic health records).
The role includes climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, and stooping. Requires good balance and coordination. Must exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and up to 25 lbs. of force frequently. Requires close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision for tasks such as assessing patients and using computer terminals. Includes frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact, exposure to body fluids and hazardous materials, and quick reaction to emergencies.
