American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a short-term acute care hospital, requiring prior L&D travel experience and night shift availability.
Requirements- Active IN or Compact RN license in hand prior to start
- Nursing degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited program required
- Minimum 18 months of L&D RN experience required
- Prior L&D travel nursing experience required
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA or RQI accepted), NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring course
- Cerner EMR experience required
- SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- 2 supervisor references required for consideration
- Short-term acute care hospital setting, Labor & Delivery unit
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- High-volume L&D unit averaging 200–300 births per month
- Patient population includes high-risk OB cases including pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, placenta previa/abruptio, preterm labor, PROM, multiple gestation, malpresentations, uterine rupture, and VBAC management
- Clinical skills utilized include EFM, internal fetal monitoring, IUPC placement and calibration, NST, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin, insulin drips, antihypertensives, prostaglandins, terbutaline, amnioinfusion, and blood/blood product administration
- Newborn care responsibilities include neonatal resuscitation, APGAR scoring, newborn assessment, hypoglycemia management, thermoregulation, and infant identification/security banding
- Delivery support includes vaginal delivery, C-section recovery, forceps/vacuum extraction, hemorrhage/shock management, couplet care, and postpartum hemorrhage response
- May float to an affiliate hospital ED to provide OB-specific care alongside a primary RN — does not take a primary assignment in that setting
- Charting via Cerner (experience required)
- First‑time travelers are welcome to apply
- Indiana residents are considered local candidates and are not eligible for this position
- Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have a 12-month separation period before applying as a traveler
- Travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health are required to take a consecutive break to reset eligibility: out‑of‑state residents require a 90-day break; in‑state residents require a 180-day break
- Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignment
- Up to 5 days of RTO may be auto‑approved
- On the first float shift to the affiliate hospital, nurses are asked to arrive 30 minutes early for a brief orientation to the unit and supplies
