American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Surgical PCU position requiring an IN or compact RN license and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
Details- Surgical PCU unit with near-ICU level acuity
- Patient population includes ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), Thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), General Surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), Urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow patients
- Staffing ratio of 1:3-4
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00-7:30
- Every other weekend required, with possible consecutive weekends based on operational need
- Floating required to Med-Surg, PCU, or ICU levels of care within the hospital or affiliate hospitals nearby
- May be asked to assume charge nurse responsibilities with training and resources provided
- Cerner charting system used
- Active IN or compact RN license required in hand prior to start
- Current ACLS and BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Proficient in cardiac monitoring and on-unit telemetry
- Experience managing chest tubes, fresh trachs, feeding tubes, and epidurals
- Experience with post-op patient care, non-titratable cardiac drips, and IV insulin protocols/titration
- Experience with external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy care, and doppler flap checks
- Nursing degree from a school accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
- 2 supervisor references required
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- Must agree to the possibility of precepting or having students shadow during the assignment, as this is a teaching hospital environment
- All travelers are required to float within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital, with refusal potentially resulting in contract termination
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Local IN candidates are not accepted for this position
- Previous IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must take a designated break to reset eligibility
