Seasonal Gardener

$18/Hourly (32 hours a week, March - November)

The Garden at Newfields is seeking applicants for Gardeners. This is a rare opportunity to work with a dedicated professional staff at one of the premier public gardens in the Midwest. The successful applicant will work in the historic gardens of Oldfields, a National Historic Landmark property, as well as the contemporary gardens located throughout the 52-acre landscape. This is an ideal opportunity to improve one's gardening skills and greatly expand one's plant knowledge.

• Installation of trees, shrubs, bulbs, and herbaceous planting.
• Groom gardens (weeding, edging beds, mulching, etc.).
• Provide cultural care for plants and gardens (watering, deadheading, pruning, etc.).

• Learning new physical and technical gardening skills
• Desire to learn plant identification and care
• Ability to think critically and solve problems
• Enthusiastic attitude

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Prior gardening experience preferred
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as planting plans, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to use horticultural equipment and tools with proper training
