Job Description

Position Summary

The Lab Asset Management Metrologist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of analytical laboratory instrumentation within a regulated pharmaceutical environment. This role combines hands‑on metrology and calibration expertise with asset management, documentation control, vendor coordination, and strong customer interface skills. The Metrologist supports laboratory uptime by performing qualifications, addressing routine instrument issues, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring all instrumentation records meet GxP and internal quality standards.

Key Responsibilities Instrumentation Qualification & Calibration
  • Perform and document GxP‑compliant instrument qualifications (IQ/OQ/PQ) for a wide range of analytical systems including HPLC, GC, KF, UV-Vis, HIAC, MFI, and other laboratory instrumentation.
  • Execute scheduled and post‑maintenance qualification activities to maintain equipment in a validated state.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve routine calibration‑related issues to minimize downtime.
  • Assist in testing and verification activities related to instrument upgrades, patches, or enhancements.
Repairs & Technical Support
  • Perform urgent and priority‑level repairs, specifically user‑accessible components (e.g., lamps, pumps, seals, tubing, syringes).
  • Provide technical support for chromatography data systems (e.g., Empower) and assist in data processing or system troubleshooting where necessary.
  • Support root‑cause discussions for recurring calibration issues and contribute to continuous improvement.
Asset Management
  • Maintain complete and accurate instrument documentation including work orders, qualification reports, calibration records, and service histories.
  • Enter and manage asset data in the electronic asset management system (GMARS) to ensure traceability and compliance.
  • Monitor and report key performance metrics related to equipment performance, uptime, and qualification status.
Vendor & Client Coordination
  • Coordinate and escort third‑party vendors performing routine and contract maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with site requirements and documentation standards.
  • Communicate effectively with client stakeholders, project leads, and lab personnel to provide asset management updates, schedule work, and resolve instrumentation issues.
  • Serve as a technical resource for laboratory staff regarding equipment usage, maintenance scheduling, and basic troubleshooting.
Qualifications
  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a life science discipline (Chemistry, Biology, or related field) and >4 years of relevant pharmaceutical or regulated industry experience; OR MS degree in a life science field and ≥2 years of directly related experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with analytical instrumentation and chromatography systems (HPLC, GC, KF, UV‑Vis, etc.) required.
  • Proficiency with chromatography data systems such as Empower strongly preferred.
  • Experience performing IQ/OQ/PQ, calibrations, or equipment troubleshooting in a GxP environment.
  • Skills & Competencies
  • Strong scientific, mechanical, and technical aptitude with excellent problem‑solving ability.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a strong focus on documentation accuracy and data integrity.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills for effective client interaction.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast‑paced, regulated lab environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques, multitask effectively, follow SOPs, and comply with company and regulatory requirements.
Additional Information
  • The position is full‑time, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
  • May be requested to work on weekends, overtime, and holidays based on business needs.
  • Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Indianapolis, IN are encouraged to apply.
