Position Summary

To perform this job successfully, an individual must effectively execute each essential duty.

Key Functions and Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct the quality control program to ensure continuous production of products consistent with established standards.
  • Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine current standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectations for finished products.
  • Use data from various reports to analyze quality problems and create corrective action plans that improve product quality.
  • Continuously monitor the top ten quality problems and coordinate corrective action plans to eliminate them.
  • Monitor the quality of incoming raw materials.
  • Act as plant sanitarian, ensuring product safety.
  • Perform audits of the manufacturing facility and product safety system to ensure compliance with sanitation guidelines, SQF, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Develop and audit systems for production and waste reporting; analyze plant waste monthly.
  • Apply statistical methods for analysis and provide plans for cost reduction and productivity improvement.
  • Work directly with customers on quality issues, answer complaints, and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Formulate and maintain quality control objectives and coordinate them with production procedures and other plant supervisors and managers to maximize product reliability and minimize cost.
  • Collaborate with the Amcor Technical Center to assure quality and schedule quality improvements.
  • Direct employees engaged in inspection and testing to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
  • Investigate and adjust customer complaints; suggest changes to prevent similar complaints.
  • Enter data, read, and interpret spreadsheets.
  • Maintain safety and housekeeping for the department.
  • Manage the plant-wide quality assurance program and documentation control of overall quality.
  • Implement a continuous improvement program for the quality system to upgrade product and process quality, including the SPC program.
  • Manage raw material vendor quality assurance, liaise with vendors for resolution of quality issues, issue DMRS, and follow up to ensure credits for reject materials.
  • Inspect and test incoming raw material for conformance to specifications.
  • Administer government contract requirements for all products produced for the government.
  • Certify all gauges and maintain the certification program.
  • Oversee adherence to government contract requirements for all products.
  • Act as contact person for all government inspections.
  • Facilitate the quality circle and task force program at the plant level.
  • Act as counselor on methods for problem solving.
  • Dispose of all materials held for Q.A. inspection; review with Plant Manager to scrap defective material and prevent shipment.
  • Act as contact person for all regulatory inspections relating to safety.
  • Manage the plant-wide Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) program and its functions plant-wide.
  • Ensure shipment of Sample Quality Products to Customer as requested.
  • Manage the Quality System and checks in the plant Poly Press area, including print quality, product safety, and product control.
  • Control the print retain system for the press area.
  • Maintain plant-wide material specifications and update as required.
Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, develop, and supervise QA analysts/technicians to ensure uniform application of quality standards and completion of documentation.
  • Manage 10 subordinate employees engaged in inspection of the product during all phases of production, including the SQF Representative.
  • Oversee the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of all quality control and related issues.
  • If the Quality Manager is out of the facility, the Plant Manager will assume the responsibilities.
Required Experience, Skills, & Abilities
  • Fifth-year college or university program certificate; or two or more years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
