The Materials Science and Nano‑engineering (MSN) department has an interdisciplinary vision based on the competence of its researchers and the relevance of the developed research themes/programs designed to meet different national and global issues.
MSN develops high‑level basic and applied research in Materials Science and Nano‑engineering. The developed research areas in MSN are at the borders of all aspects related to materials science. To achieve this challenge, MSN has adopted a research strategy and a clear vision, based on the following research axes:
- Smart and Functional Materials
- Circular Materials
- Develop independent research programs in powder metallurgy including extractive approaches (hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy) and innovative technique to manufacture metals from powders (3D printing, sand molding, etc.). These programs should be aligned with the Metallurgy Cluster roadmap, focusing mainly on areas such as alloy development, metal processing, or materials characterization
- Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences
- Pursue research funding through grant proposals
- Supervise graduate students working on master's or PhD theses in metallurgical engineering or related disciplines
- Provide academic advising to students, helping them select courses, pursue internships, and develop career paths in the field
