Seasonal Lab Technician; Quality Seed Lab

Position: Seasonal Lab Technician (Quality Seed Lab)
Location: Atlanta

The Seasonal Lab Technician will work closely with the Seed Quality Lab Manager to perform tasks for the seed quality lab focusing on germination, purity and trait verification. This is a seasonal position starting early August 2025 through February 2026. There could be potential to extend the contract, but that would require separate discussion and a new contract agreement come February.

This position would work M-F from 7:00 - 4:30 PM ET during the defined months.

Responsibilities

• Perform the following in the Seed Quality Lab as needed:
• Subsampling seed for lab tests.
• Independently follow instructions to prepare lab test media, including but not limited to sand/soil mixing and sifting, tray preparation, and herbicide bioassay towel preparation.
• Independently follow instructions to complete germination, vigor, purity, and herbicide bioassay testing.
• Interpreting lab results from each test and recording each result.
• Data entry of test results into the lab data management system.
• Maintaining and cleaning of work areas to maintain a clean, safe and professional lab.
• Assist with other duties as required by the Seed Quality Lab Manager.

Job Requirements

Education and Training:

• High School Diploma/GED preferred, experience helpful but not required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and insurable driving record as determined by Beck's automobile insurance policy.

Technical knowledge:

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Possesses a positive attitude.
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and work as a team member.
• Possess a high-level attention to detail, organized, and be able to consistently deliver timely and accurate results.
• Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office and spreadsheets.

Physical demands:

• Be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time.
• Good manual dexterity
• Able to work in an environment with soil, sand, seeds, various plant material and herbicides.

Experience:

• Experience in a seed testing lab is preferred, but not required.
