JOB SUMMARY

The Predictive Safety Center (PSC) has an immediate opening for a contract Laboratory Technician position to support ongoing environmental fate research. This individual will work closely with PSC team members to conduct and support laboratory experiments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and support environmental fate research, including the setup of experiments with environmental samples such as soil, extraction of small molecule crop protection actives, sample cleanup, and analysis by liquid chromatography.
  • Use and maintain laboratory automation equipment such as automated liquid handlers and solids dispensers to conduct high-throughput (HTP) assays.
  • Conduct environmental fate experiments utilizing carbon-14 radioactive isotope materials and instrumentation used for measurement of radioactive residues.
  • Support the development of novel environmental fate assays under the guidance of subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure timely delivery of results.
  • Contribute to the organization and upkeep of the laboratory, including handling of waste streams.
  • Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety procedures, including our radiation safety program to meet Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requirements for handling of radioactive materials.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of a high school diploma;
    Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of bench chemistry techniques and use of standard laboratory equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team‑based environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to prioritize tasks and meet project goals.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with computer systems and standard software such as Microsoft Office.
  • Agreement to strictly adhere to all safety procedures.
  • Candidates should be comfortable working with carbon-14 radioactive materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS Environmental Science preferred.
