Job Overview

PED-ENDOCRINOLOGY BASIC RES (IN-PENB-IUINA) The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research (Wells Center) conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 300 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness. With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases.

Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond. The Research Analyst is responsible for setting up the physical laboratory, migrating protocols, and continuing work on our active research projects from the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute (IBRI).

Responsibilities
  • Develops and conducts scientific experiments working with supervision and independently as projects develop, including mouse studies, molecular cloning, gene editing and in vitro and in vivo genome-wide CRISPR screening, and virus production and delivery.
  • Develops new research protocols to characterize beta cell responses to cellular stress or autoimmune attack.
  • Documents research findings accurately and publishes research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Supports the preparation of grant funding applications.
  • Performs complex and intricate laboratory experiments while following research techniques and procedures.
  • Develops procedures and protocols in collaboration with leadership.
  • Prepares research reports or analyses for projects.
  • Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Provides guidance and support to junior-level staff in laboratory operations.
  • May develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for research projects and related work.
Education & Experience
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in a related field.
  • Required: 3 years of related work experience.

Physical Demands

The role requires the ability to effectively communicate, move around the work environment, operate laboratory equipment, move objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Estimated salary: $55,000.00 - $61,200.00 based on experience, skill level, education, and training.
