The department "Circular Water and Biomass Utilization" develops innovative concepts and technologies for a sustainable circular economy.

With our interdisciplinary team, we work on practical solutions to efficiently utilize resources and waste streams and to design industrial processes to be efficient and sustainable. We regularly offer exciting thesis topics in the fields of membrane and food technology, bio-/chemical process engineering, and environmental engineering and are looking forward to motivated students. Here you will make a difference. As part of your thesis, you will be involved in the research and analysis of scientific sources, the planning and execution of laboratory and pilot trials, and work on the development and optimization of process engineering processes in the field of circular economy.

Currently, we are particularly working on core topics such as: bioelectrochemical fermentation, development of new synthesis routes for enzymatic processes, processing of by-products and waste streams, especially in the food sector, research of innovative approaches for trace substance and PFAS removal from wastewater, material development for more sustainable and resource-saving construction applications. Through close cooperation with our industrial partners, there is often the opportunity to carry out theses in direct cooperation, for example, also at the locations in Mannheim or Dortmund.

You bring in

• Ongoing natural or engineering science studies
• Experience in laboratory and/or pilot plant work
• Reliable, self-reliant, and solution-oriented working method
• Careful documentation and presentation of research results
• Good English skills are advantageous

The remuneration is based on the overall collective agreement for the employment of auxiliary staff.
