PED-TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH SCI (IN-PTRS-IUINA)

The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research (The Wells Center) conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine (IUSM). The Wells Center houses more than 300 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.

With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.

The Research Analyst manages projects of multiple Principal Investigators (PI) with funded awards. The projects are always growing as the investigators learn more from results and determine new directions to pursue as a basis for more grants. This role constantly incorporates additional experiments and requests into the laboratory, arranging projects for timely results, writing and publications; it manages the laboratory aspect of clinical research for any tasks that are not designated to an outside core.

• Organizes and executes priority experiments, tracks sample collection, maintains logs for storage compliance; sends requested samples, working with collaborators.
• Writes protocols and protocol training.
• Writes and edits the materials and methods section of papers, including some data figures.
• Writes and edits reports for various governing agencies.
• Maintains the inventory of the lab, ensures resources are allocated efficiently and effectively, and communicates with all personnel about their project supply needs.
• Obtains quality equipment and supplies and stays current on program accounting.
• Maintains regulatory documents, including biosafety, chemical safety, radiation safety and hazardous waste records, for the lab; ensures staff and personnel in the lab follow lab safety protocols.

• Performs complex and intricate laboratory experiments while following research techniques and procedures.
• Develops procedures and protocols in collaboration with leadership.
• Prepares research reports or analyses for projects.
• Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed.
• Provides guidance and support to junior-level staff in laboratory operations.
• May develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for research projects and related work.

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. $55,000. annually determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
