Title:

SERVER

Purpose of the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to take orders from the customers in the dining room, quickly and correctly; enter orders into the Point of Sale System; and bring food and beverage items along with other necessary items to the table. This position is critical to the success of this Pizza Hut in that it is a necessary step in selling and delivering products to its customers.

Functions

The following functions have been determined to be essential to the successful performance of this position.

Cleaning and Preparing Dining Room
  • Servers check sections in the dining room for readiness for customers.
  • Ensure that tables, booths, and chairs are clean.
  • Clean dining room windows and carpet.
  • All tables must have one placemat for each seat (e.g., four placemats on a four‑top booth).
  • All tables must have correct marketing materials, such as table tents. Clean or replace any that are not clean.
  • All tables must have correct condiments and paper towels. Condiment containers must be clean and full.
Seating Customers
  • Within 30 seconds of arrival, greet customers at the door in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Determine party size and rotate servers accordingly.
  • Check for customers with special needs (wheelchairs, walkers, hearing/visual impairment, highchairs for children).
  • Escort customers to the table at a casual pace.
  • Inform customers about specials and suggest items (bread sticks, chicken wings) as appropriate.
  • Deliver menus and inform customers that their Server will be right with them.
Greeting, Suggestive Selling, and Serving Customers
  • Greet tables within 2 minutes of seating.
  • Bring all serviceware to the table upon greeting.
  • Suggest an upgraded beverage (soft or alcoholic, where applicable) and record orders.
  • Explain the menu and suggest starters (bread sticks or wings) and record orders.
  • Enter appetizer and beverage orders into SUS, the Point of Sale system.
  • Prepare and deliver beverages on a tray to customers’ tables.
  • If a pitcher of drinks is ordered, pour within 3 minutes of the order.
  • Suggestively sell specialty pizza and other menu items; record orders and add-ons (salads, bread sticks, wings).
  • Enter entrée orders into SUS.
  • Follow up at the table before entrée arrival to check for refills or additional needs.
  • Clear (bus) finished dishes from the table.
  • Deliver the main entrée and serve the first slice of pizza.
  • Check back for satisfaction and continue selling additional items; bus finished dishes.
  • Suggest a cookie or Cinnastix toward the end of the meal.
  • Enter dessert orders into SUS.
  • Deliver the check, thank the customer, and invite them to return; bus finished dishes.
  • Provide packaging for leftover items as requested.
  • Process payments rapidly within 3 minutes.
  • After customers leave, bus, clean, and reset the table for the next guests; dispose of dishes and clean surfaces; place placemats and napkins; clean booster chairs and high chairs.
Additional Duties
  • Assist with answering phone calls, taking carryout and delivery orders, and responding to customers at the carryout counter and drive‑thru windows; locate carryout orders and cash out orders.
  • Perform sidework (e.g., slicing lemons for tea) as assigned by the Restaurant Management Team.
  • Maintain the salad bar (in restaurants with salad bars), refilling items by prescribed method, straightening utensils, and keeping the bar clean and organized.
  • At shift end, ensure the assigned section is clean and ready for service.
  • At shift end, perform cleanup tasks from an assigned list (salad bar refill, restocking, shelf cleaning, highchair cleaning, washing dishware, filling condiment shakers).
  • At day end, perform closing tasks assigned by the Manager on Duty (break down salad bar, vacuum carpeted areas).
  • Non‑essential functions: washing dishes with an automatic dishwasher during cleanup times; mopping other restaurant areas.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
  • Able to perform or learn to perform the essential functions at an acceptable pace.
