Overview

Five Star Marketplace is seeking a dependable and motivated Grocery Store Assistant Manager to support daily store operations and assist the Store Manager in leading a high-performing team. This is a hands-on role that includes supervising staff, assisting customers, processing stock, filling shelves, and helping ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Knox, Indiana;
Status:
Full-time. The ideal candidate is a strong team player and emerging leader who is comfortable working on the sales floor, stepping in where needed, and maintaining high operational and customer service standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Staff Support:
    Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training new employees; supervise team members during shifts and provide coaching and feedback; support a positive, respectful, and team-oriented workplace culture; act as manager-on-duty in the Store Manager’s absence.
  • Daily Store Operations:
    Assist with opening and closing procedures; ensure proper staffing levels and smooth daily workflow; enforce company policies, safety procedures, and food-handling standards; help monitor store performance and operational priorities.
  • Inventory, Stocking & Merchandising:
    Process incoming inventory, including receiving and checking deliveries; stock shelves, rotate product, and maintain backroom organization; monitor product levels and communicate ordering needs to the Store Manager; ensure shelves are faced, organized, and visually appealing; verify pricing accuracy and signage.
  • Customer Service:
    Lead by example in providing friendly, efficient customer service; address customer questions, concerns, and complaints professionally; assist with in-store promotions and seasonal merchandising; help maintain store cleanliness and overall appearance.
  • Scheduling & Administration:
    Assist with preparing weekly schedules and ensuring shift coverage; support basic sales tracking, reporting, and operational planning; communicate effectively with management, staff, and vendors.
Qualifications
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience in grocery or retail (1–3+ years preferred)
  • Willingness to perform hands-on work, including stocking and floor coverage
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Customer-focused mindset with problem-solving ability
  • Basic understanding of inventory control and merchandising practices
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience With Point-of-sale Systems Preferred
Schedule

Mix of weekday and weekend shifts; some evenings required; flexible scheduling available.
