Overview
The Space Planning Analyst supports the execution of store-level space allocation, capacity planning, and fleet optimization initiatives. This role is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of merchandise capacity data and the coordination of space layouts for new store openings and remodels. The Analyst acts as a vital link between Merchandising and Store Operations, ensuring that product assortments are physically executable within the footprint of each location.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working with data and floor plans, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Support space planning activities for new store openings, remodels, relocations, and major store refresh projects.
- Assist in updating and maintaining store floor plans, fixture layouts, and merchandise capacity data.
- Help track category-level space allocations and option counts using established planning frameworks.
- Maintain and update space planning databases, fixture inventories, and related documentation.
- Assist in analyzing store productivity metrics (sales, inventory, space efficiency) to support planning decisions.
- Prepare basic reports, spreadsheets, and presentations summarizing space allocation data and updates.
- Participate in store visits and walk-throughs to gather observations and support validation of floor plans.
- Collaborate with Merchandising and Store Operations teams to ensure data accuracy and alignment across systems.
- Support ad hoc analysis requests and space planning projects as needed.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Merchandising, Business Analytics, or related area.
- 1–3 years of experience in Retail Merchandising, Space Planning, Store Planning, or related retail analytics functions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables) and Google Suite.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage strict deadlines related to store opening calendars.
- Desire to continually learn new skills, methods, and technologies as the job requires.
Education and/or Experience
- Experience in athletic footwear, sporting goods, or apparel retail.
- Experience supporting new store development and remodel initiatives in a multi-store retail environment.
- Understanding of retail stockroom operations and inventory flow processes.
