Position: Security Officer - University Hospital - Full Time - Day Shift
Location: Indianapolis

Overview

The Security Officer is responsible for patrolling the hospital and grounds to ensure a safe, secure environment for Associates, patients and family members, and other visitors. The role models appropriate behavior in line with MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Responsibilities
  • Patrol the hospital, parking, and/or assigned areas to ensure safety and security for Associates, patients, and visitors.
  • Handle mobile responsibilities such as van and shuttle operations.
  • Provide customer service and perform general duties.
  • Use proper communication skills for radio and telephone.
  • Prepare daily activity reports, Incident Reports, Offense Reports, Fire Reports, etc.
  • Maintain property of patients, lost and found property, and documentation on money escorts.
  • Maintain appearance and equipment.
Education / Formal Training

Required:

High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Experience

Preferred: 1–3 years of security or law‑enforcement experience.

Licenses & Certifications
  • Required:

    ClassD Driver License – Tennessee.
  • Required:

    Security Guard – Unarmed – Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of security and criminal investigation methods commensurate with education/experience.
  • Ability to carry out assigned duties with integrity and honesty.
  • Skill in applying appropriate behavior when greeting and assisting members of the public.
  • Ability to understand and prepare written materials at a moderate level, such as Incident Reports, gained through high‑school completion.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with Associates and visitors.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and maintain control of workflow.
  • Ability to maintain working relationships with co‑workers.
Supervision

There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands

The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.

Additional requirements:

exert up to 100lbs occasionally or 50lbs frequently; good balance and coordination; visual acuity to perform tasks; periodic use of physical force to resolve emergencies; and successful participation in required training.
