Role Overview
:

The Part-Time Security Specialist (3rd Shift) is responsible for helping maintain a safe and secure environment for Indiana State Museum & Historic Sites (ISMHS) employees, visitors, collections, exhibits, facilities, and state property during overnight operations. The primary responsibilities include conducting routine interior and exterior security patrols; monitoring surveillance cameras, access control, intrusion detection, fire/life-safety, and other security systems; responding appropriately to alarms, emergencies, suspicious activity, and security‑related incidents;

securing and monitoring designated areas of the facility; assisting with after‑hours contractors and authorized personnel; completing Daily Activity Reports and Incident Reports; and promptly communicating significant security, safety, maintenance, or operational concerns to the Shift Lead and Security Management. The position may also assist with monitoring alarms and security‑related activity involving ISMHS historic sites and coordinating with appropriate emergency responders when required by established procedures.

This is a part‑time, 3rd shift position within a Security Department that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This 3rd shift position has a set schedule of the following days:

Monday - 12 am to 8 am

Tuesday - 12 am to 8 am

Wednesday - 12 am to 8 am

Thursday - 12 am to 7 am

Salary Statement
:

This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $16.73 but may be commensurate with education and work experience.

A Day in the Life:
  • Regular work hours will include overnight/3rd-shift assignments.
  • Weekend availability may be required based on the established schedule and operational needs.
  • The position may be scheduled on state-recognized holidays.
  • Additional hours or overtime may occasionally be available or required because of call-offs, staffing shortages, special events, emergencies, or other operational needs.
  • Employees may occasionally be asked to remain beyond their scheduled shift until appropriate relief arrives.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential because Security positions require continuous staffing and coverage.
  • The position is not a rotating-shift assignment unless operational needs require a temporary schedule adjustment.

    – Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, management, contractors, visitors, and emergency responders and prepare clear, accurate, factual, and timely security reports.
