Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Sr. Mobile Diesel Mechanic
.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment as listed above, including electrical systems, air conditioning, engine electronics, and drivetrain components.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments (handheld computers, pressure gauges).
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and verify proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate/assess alternatives using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck with periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Collaborate with clients to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks with effective prioritization and time management.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work per company standards and upload RO details, parts used, and findings via iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation promptly.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage your own daily schedule.
- Maintain productivity within or near standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals, retrieve PO numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain the service truck and conduct safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ related experience; alternatively a related degree/certification or 5 years’ related experience.
- At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform job duties.
- OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- ASE L2 preferred but not required.
- Participate in and complete all company-required training.
- DOT FMCSA regulations apply; candidate must pass a DOT pre-employment background screening and DOT physical.
- A current DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; if four months or less remain, a DOT physical is required.
- Minimum age 21 due to interstate commerce regulations; valid driver’s license required; ability to obtain and maintain Driver Qualification File.
