Knox, IN 46534. Northern Lights Locating and Inspection, Inc. was created in March of 2001 to provide services to clients with a need to protect the utility networks. Not just a "Paint and Flag" service, Northern Lights delivers locating and inspection expertise beyond traditional utility location, protecting customers’ utilities 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The company has expanded into sewer imaging, sewer main and lateral inspection and locating using the latest technology, and performs inspection work throughout the United States.

Position:
Utility Locator (Full Time, Employee)

• Locate underground utilities for clients and property owners based on 811 tickets and 811 dig laws.
• Use utility maps, as‑built civil engineering drawings, GIS information, and various pipe and electronic locating equipment.
• Utilize flags and/or paint to mark the location of underground utilities.
• Prepare reports, forms and memos to document work completed, problems encountered and/or resolved.
• Take pictures of utility lines located for each 811 ticket.
• Investigate and prepare detailed written documentation on excavations that result in damage to underground utilities.
• Use a cell‑phone based app to record locating marks for clients, property owners, excavators; the app holds photos and enables completion of all necessary documents.
• Participate in on‑call rotation.

• Know best locate practices, procedures and 811 law.
• Read and interpret utility maps and as‑built civil engineering drawings.
• Maintain cleanliness and good operating condition of all provided equipment and vehicle.
• Maintain a tobacco‑free vehicle.
• Locate underground utilities using multiple methods of locating.
• Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Maintain small‑to‑medium sized equipment and trucks.
• Complete paperwork and documentation.
• Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc., to exchange information and receive work direction.
• Attention to detail.
• Work in all weather conditions.
• Willingness to travel (75%+).
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Pass a drug screen.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a DOT physical certification.
• Must be available to work varying schedules and overtime.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
