As a Field Service Technician – Network Specialist
, you will have overall responsibility for maintaining a highly reliable network of systems including central office switches, carrier and transmission equipment, fiber electronics, business communications systems, and all other auxiliary equipment. This position involves installation and maintenance of network infrastructure and circuits, digital switch devices, and cross connects. It may include leading projects and working as part of project teams.

Because of in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the selected individual must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Pittsboro, IN warehouse (17 W Main St, Pittsboro, IN 46167).

This position is eligible for a $2,500 sign‑on bonus (payout terms apply).

This position can be hired at either the Field Service Technician‑Network or the Field Service Technician‑Network Specialist level depending on the skills and qualifications of the candidate.

• Installs, troubleshoots, tests, splices, repairs, and maintains telephone equipment and general network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, fiber optic/copper facilities, and other TDS products for new and existing customers.
• Installs, configures, maintains, and repairs PBX, Key Systems, Centrex Systems, business systems, fiber terminals, POTS, ISDN, DSL, T‑1s, and/or DS3s, and other carrier equipment.
• Identifies the location of defective cable using test equipment and repairs buried, aerial, and customer cable, including fiber and copper.
• Performs pole climbing and operates construction equipment as required.
• Updates manuals and provides functional support for back‑ups, voicemail, fiber optic terminals, and other equipment.
• Provides advanced troubleshooting support and responds to dispatches.
• Maintains record systems (cross‑connects, line groups, network elements).
• Provides excellent customer service and proactively educates and sells TDS products and services.
• Performs project management for system installations as requested.

• 2+ years of technical telecommunications experience, or current or prior military service with honorable discharge.
• 1+ year of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing, repair, installation, or switch training.
• Valid driver's license.
• Adherence to TDS attendance guidelines and commitment to meeting customer needs.

• Successful completion of required customer‑specific background checks.
• Availability for on‑call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel; willingness to work overtime.
• Successful completion of all Safety Course curriculum components.
• Ability to meet DOT requirements for operating vehicles with a combined GVRW of over 10,000 lbs.
• Understanding of a broad range of telecommunications products and services.
• Practical knowledge of computer applications such as databases, trouble/repair/dispatch systems, plant record systems, Microsoft Office applications, and CD‑ROMs.
• Independent decision making with little or no supervision.
• Customer service, sales, and communication skills.
• Organizational skills and ability to multi‑task.
• Physical capability to operate heavy construction machinery and perform digging, lifting, and climbing.
• Work various or swing shifts as business needs dictate.
• Operation of vehicles with manual transmissions.

The listed pay range reflects the minimum and maximum base salary. Actual offers will be based on factors such as skills, qualifications, experience, location, and role‑specific competencies. Some positions may also offer additional compensation, such as bonuses or equity awards.
