Northern Lights Locating and Inspection, Inc. was created in March of 2001 to provide services to clients who need protection for their utility networks. In addition to traditional utility location, Northern Lights offers locating, inspection, and imaging for sewer mains and laterals using the latest technology. We also perform inspection work and support utility projects throughout the United States.

We are looking for Utility Locators. The role is full‑time and employee‑based. The position requires a minimum of 2 years of locator experience.

• Locate underground utilities for clients and property owners based on 811 tickets and 811 dig laws.
• Use utility maps, as‑built civil engineering drawings, GIS information, and various pipe and electronic locating equipment.
• Utilize flags and/or paint to mark the location of underground utilities.
• Prepare reports, forms, and memos to document work completed and any problems encountered or resolved.
• Take photographs of localized utility lines for each 811 ticket.
• Investigate and prepare detailed documentation on excavations that result in damage to underground utilities.
• Use a cell phone‑based app to record locating marks, store photos, and complete all required documents for clients and excavators.
• Participate in an on‑call rotation.

• Know best locate practices, procedures, and 811 law.
• Read and interpret utility maps and as‑built civil engineering drawings.
• Maintain cleanliness and good operating condition of all provided equipment and vehicle.
• Maintain a tobacco‑free vehicle.
• Locate underground utilities using multiple methods of locating.
• Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Maintain small‑ to medium‑sized equipment and trucks.
• Complete paperwork and documentation.
• Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public to exchange information and receive work direction.
• Pay attention to detail.
• Be able to work in all weather conditions.
• Willingness to travel (75%+).
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Able to pass a drug screen.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a DOT physical certification.
• Must be available to work varying schedules and overtime.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
