Position SummaryAs a Field Service Technician – Network Specialist, you will maintain a highly reliable network of systems including central office switches, carrier and transmission equipment, fiber electronics, business communication systems, and other auxiliary equipment. Responsibilities include installation, maintenance, repair, and support of telecommunications products and infrastructure, customer service, and sales of TDS products and services.
Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the selected individual must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Whitestown, Indiana warehouse located at 1 N Main Street – Whitestown, IN 46075.
This position is eligible for a $2,500 sign‑on bonus (payout terms apply).
Responsibilities- Install, troubleshoot, test, splice, repair, and maintain telephone equipment, customer premise equipment, video/CATV/DBS, fiber optic/copper facilities, and other TDS products for new and existing customers.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain PBX, Key Systems, Centrex Systems, business systems, fiber terminals, POTS, ISDN, DSL, T‑1s, DS3s, and related carrier equipment.
- Identify defective cable locations using test equipment; perform repairs on buried, aerial, and customer cable, including pole climbing and use of construction equipment.
- Maintain central office equipment, including switches, operating software, and auxiliary equipment; keep backups and provide functional support.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting support and respond to “trouble” dispatches.
- Maintain record systems such as cross connects, line groups, and network elements.
- Deliver excellent customer service, proactively educate customers, and sell TDS products and services.
- Perform project management for system installations as requested by the supervisor.
- 2+ years of technical telecommunications experience OR current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
- At least 1 year of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation, and/or switch training.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to follow TDS attendance guidelines.
- Must successfully complete customer‑specific requirements, including background checks.
- Availability for on‑call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel; willingness to work overtime and swing shifts as needed.
- Successful completion of all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
- Ability to maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles with a combined GVRW >10,000 lbs.
- Understanding of telecommunications products and services, including structured wiring, fiber optics, video installation, and related concepts.
- Experience with computer applications such as databases, trouble/repair/dispatch systems, plant record systems, MS Office, and CD‑ROMs.
- Independent decision‑making with minimal supervision.
- Strong customer service, sales, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to multi‑task.
- Physical capability to operate heavy construction machinery, dig, lift, and climb; ability to operate manual transmission vehicles.

Pay Range (Hourly / Yearly)$27.62 per hour – $41.42 per hour.
