The Mechanic II performs various repairs, maintenance, inspections, and specialty services for gas and diesel vehicles, pavement marking equipment, forklifts, trailers, and other fleet assets. This position is responsible for diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems while ensuring equipment is safe, reliable, and production‑ready to support daily operations. A thorough understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, general combustion engines, and roadway construction equipment is preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform hands‑on maintenance on routine and difficult service needs for vehicles, company forklifts, and various other company specific equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on pavement marking and roadway striping equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues on trucks and specialized equipment.
  • Repair and maintain paint trucks, thermoplastic equipment, air compressors, hydraulic systems, grinders, sweepers, trailers, and support equipment.
  • Troubleshoot striping systems including paint pumps, bead systems, spray guns, and heating systems.
  • Ensure all work and material handling follow established safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA standards.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on automobiles and light trucks.
  • Performs major repairs like chassis, engine repair, and disassembling and assembling components.
  • Performs minor repairs and maintenance work such as replacing worn drive belts, hoses, and filters.
  • Diagnoses issues, uses electronic indicator systems to identify problems, and performs routine safety checks on brakes, suspension, exhaust, cooling, and other systems.
  • Conduct equipment inspections and document maintenance and repair activities.
  • Respond to field breakdowns and emergency repair calls as needed.
  • Coordinate with operations personnel to prioritize equipment readiness and minimize downtime.
  • Other projects and initiatives that drive organizational goals and results.

Education, Certifications & Qualifications
  • HS Diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with the For‑Hire endorsement to operate Company vehicles.
  • Requires 1–3 years of related mechanical experience, preferably working with fleet vehicles, diesel equipment, heavy equipment, or roadway construction equipment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and vehicle electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagnostic information, and service manuals.
  • Must have strong problem‑solving skills and a desire to create solutions.
  • Must have the ability to work in sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport and effective communication with diverse levels within the company and external organizations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions with ability to deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Experience working under tight deadlines and shifting priorities, with the ability to work overtime, nights, weekends, and emergency call‑outs as business needs require.
  • Ability to work independently, be self‑motivated with a high sense of urgency.
  • Ability to uphold regulatory and company standards.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from internal or external customers.
