Role The Sheet Metal Foreman is a full-time, on-site role based in Indianapolis, IN. This position oversees daily sheet metal installation activities, including planning work schedules, assigning tasks, and coordinating materials and equipment on commercial and industrial projects. The foreman leads and mentors sheet metal crews, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and building codes.
The role also includes reading and interpreting blueprints, inspecting work quality, resolving on-site issues, and communicating progress with project managers and other trades. The role also includes monitoring jobsite safety, maintaining tools and equipment, and supporting project timelines and budgets.
- Oversee daily sheet metal installation activities on commercial and industrial projects.
- Plan work schedules, assign tasks, and coordinate materials and equipment.
- Lead and mentor sheet metal crews to ensure safety, accuracy, and compliance with plans, specifications, and building codes.
- Read and interpret blueprints and specifications; inspect work quality and resolve on-site issues.
- Communicate progress with project managers and other trades; monitor jobsite safety.
- Maintain tools and equipment; support project timelines and budgets.
- Strong supervisory skills, including crew leadership, task delegation, and mentoring less experienced team members.
- Proficiency with heavy equipment commonly used in sheet metal work, including safe operation and basic troubleshooting.
- Solid communication skills for coordinating with team members, project managers, and other trades on site.
- Practical carpentry skills that support installation, framing, and integration of sheet metal components.
- Maintenance skills for inspecting, servicing, and maintaining tools, equipment, and installed systems.
- Experience in commercial or industrial sheet metal installation and foreman-level responsibility is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of construction safety standards, building codes, and blueprint reading.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or apprenticeship in sheet metal or HVAC is a plus.
- Ability to work on-site in varying weather conditions and to perform physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
