We are seeking an experienced Senior Commercial HVAC Service Technician with advanced skills in control wiring, building automation interfaces, and air balancing
. This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, commissioning, and optimizing commercial HVAC systems while serving as a subject‑matter expert to junior technicians and clients. The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional technical proficiency, clean and accurate wiring practices, strong troubleshooting abilities, and a deep understanding of airflow dynamics in commercial environments.

Key Responsibilities Service, Diagnostics & Repair
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance on commercial HVAC equipment including RTUs, split systems, VRF/VRV systems, heat pumps, boilers, air handlers, VAV systems, exhaust systems, and energy recovery units.
  • Conduct advanced diagnostics on electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical components.
  • Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, ladder logic, and sequence‑of‑operation documentation.
  • Ensure all work meets local codes, safety regulations, and manufacturer specifications.
Control Wiring & Building Automation
  • Install, repair, and commission control wiring, sensors, actuators, relays, and low‑voltage circuits.
  • Interface with Building Automation Systems (BAS), including troubleshooting communication issues and verifying proper sequence of operations.
  • Identify control failures, incorrect wiring, or programming issues affecting system performance.
  • Provide recommendations for controls upgrades, retrofits, and energy‑efficiency improvements.
Air Balance & System Optimization
  • Conduct airflow testing, adjustments, and balancing for commercial HVAC systems.
  • Verify proper operation of VAV boxes, static pressure controls, economizers, and ventilation systems.
  • Utilize airflow measurement tools (manometers, flow hoods, anemometers) to achieve design specifications.
  • Document air balance findings and recommend system improvements for comfort, efficiency, and code compliance.
Leadership & Customer Interaction
  • Mentor junior technicians on best practices in control wiring, system diagnostics, and air balancing.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to facility managers, contractors, and building owners.
  • Prepare accurate service reports, recommendations, and follow‑up actions.
  • Represent the company with professionalism, reliability, and a customer‑first approach.
Qualifications Required
  • 7+ years of commercial HVAC service experience.
  • Strong expertise in control wiring, low‑voltage circuits, and control logic.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in commercial air balancing.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, control diagrams, and airflow specifications.
  • EPA 608 Certification (Type II or Universal).
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to interface with clients and effectively communicate service/project outcomes and recommendations.
  • Applicants must have a current driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record, must be insurable to drive to and from assigned jobs.
Preferred
  • Certification from NEBB, TAB, TABB, or related air balancing organizations.
  • Experience with common BAS platforms (e.g., Trane, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Carrier).
  • OSHA 10/30 safety certification.
  • Associates degree or technical schooling in HVAC, controls, electronics, or a related field.
