About Wabash Valley Correctional Facility:
Wabash Valley Correctional Facility is a multi‑level security facilitylocatedin Carlisle, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 2,200 incarcerated adult males. The facility includes both maximum‑security and minimum‑security housing. Programs support rehabilitation through educational services, treatment, and specialized initiatives. Notable offerings include the Special Needs Acclimation Program (SNAP), which provides tailored support for individuals with unique needs. The facility also contributes to community service projects supporting local organizations.

Role Overview:
As a Maintenance Technician, you’ll join a full‑service maintenance team at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility, supporting daily repair and preventive maintenance across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds. The facility uses newer HVAC systems, which may require some additional training—training we provide to help you build confidence and skill in modern equipment. This Monday–Friday role offers steady hours, strong safety practices, and hands‑on experience.
We provide training for motivated individuals beginning or growing their maintenance careers, with a clear path for advancement into supervisory and leadership roles (Maintenance Technician → Maintenance Supervisor → Physical Plant Director).

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. Depending on the retirement plan you choose, the total compensation value of a $42,900.00 salary, including the State’s retirement contributions, can reach approximately $69,822.98. The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Oversee and participates in preventive maintenance and repairs of facilities
- Maintain accountability of materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Ensure compliance, of self and assigned personnel, with all appropriate protective and safety requirements
- Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
- Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You'll Need for Success:Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting trades.
- Ability to plan, schedule and supervise job sites.
- Ability to fill in for other foreman to ensure the operation of the department.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and other remediation plans and documents.
- Thorough knowledge of standard practices, processes, materials, procedures, and the ability to use tools and equipment of the various trades, such as carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
