The Food Service Repair Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Indianapolis, IN. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining commercial food service equipment such as refrigeration units, cooking and holding equipment, ventilation systems, and ware-washing machines at customer locations. Day-to-day tasks include performing scheduled maintenance, responding to service calls, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, identifying and installing parts, and documenting work performed in service reports.
The technician will communicate with customers and internal teams to schedule repairs, explain findings, and recommend preventive maintenance to minimize downtime. This role also involves adhering to safety standards, following manufacturer guidelines, and supporting installation projects as needed.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills for commercial food service equipment (e.g., refrigeration, cooking, ware-washing, and ventilation systems).
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, equipment floor plans, and shop drawings.
- Knowledge of basic plumbing, gas, and HVAC connections relevant to equipment installation and repair.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic instruments, and measuring devices safely and effectively.
- Effective customer service and communication skills to explain repairs, coordinate service visits, and build professional relationships.
- Strong time management and organization skills to prioritize service calls and maintain accurate service documentation.
- Attention to detail with a focus on safety, regulatory compliance, and meeting local health and building codes.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites within the Indianapolis area; acceptable driving record.
- Prior experience as a service technician in food service, refrigeration, HVAC, or related fields.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in refrigeration, electrical, or mechanical repair is a must.
- Ability to lift and move equipment, stand for extended periods, and work in commercial kitchen environments.
