Job Responsibilities

  • Follow direction from supervisors and site management.
  • Perform welding and fabrication activities in accordance with project specifications and quality requirements.
  • Assist Pipe fitters with the installation, repair, and modification of industrial piping systems.
  • Weld using GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (Stick) processes.
  • Perform welds in 2G, 4G, and 6G positions.
  • Successfully pass required Zachry welding qualifications or maintain current applicable Zachry welding certifications.
  • Read and interpret drawings, weld procedures, and technical documents.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety requirements and company policies.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification Highlights
  • Minimum 4 years of industrial welding experience, or
  • Completion of a 2-year technical or vocational welding program.
  • Demonstrated industrial maintenance experience.
  • Experience welding carbon steel pipe systems.
  • Ability to pass a Zachry welding test if not currently certified.
  • Knowledge of GTAW and SMAW welding processes.
  • Ability to weld 2" Schedule 160 and 4" Schedule 40 pipe.
  • Testing material will be carbon steel.
  • Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the position.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and experience with hand tools and power tools.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, technical manuals, and welding procedures.
  • Ability to recognize welding defects and make necessary corrections.
  • Ability to detect faulty equipment, unsafe conditions, or defective materials and notify supervision promptly.
  • Ability to lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to welding.
  • Knowledge of weld fit-up, joint preparation, and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to ignite torches, operate welding equipment, and safely perform cutting and welding activities.
  • Monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinkage, distortion, or expansion of materials.
  • Ability to operate welding-related hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • Must meet site access requirements, including successful completion of any required background screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous employment with Zachry.
  • Vocational training, trade school, or additional welding certifications.
  • Experience working in coal-fired power plants or other heavy industrial facilities.
  • Additional pipe welding certifications.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and work platforms.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights and in confined spaces when required.
  • Ability to use hands and arms to lift, grasp, push, pull, and operate tools and equipment.
  • Must possess adequate vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including:
    • Hard hat
    • Safety glasses and welding hood
    • Hearing protection
    • Gloves
    • Respirator (as required)
    • Safety vest
    • Steel-toe boots
Work Environment
  • Outdoor industrial maintenance and construction environment.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, wind, and rain.
  • Moderate to high noise levels.
  • Regular exposure to welding operations, grinding activities, and industrial equipment.
  • Work may be performed at elevated locations and around heavy equipment, vehicles, cranes, and active industrial processes.
  • Exposure to sparks, fumes, and hot materials while following all required safety protocols.
