Position

Summary

The Controls Technician III is a senior-level technical professional responsible for leading the installation, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, optimization, and ongoing service of complex building automation and control systems. This position serves as a subject matter expert and field leader, providing technical guidance, customer support, and mentorship to technicians while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.

The Controls Technician III works independently on advanced systems, drives operational excellence, and plays a key role in customer satisfaction, team development, and project success.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
  • Lead the installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of complex building automation systems and control networks.
  • Configure, program, modify, and troubleshoot controllers, databases, graphics, integrations, and communication protocols.
  • Diagnose and resolve advanced hardware, software, network, and system performance issues.
  • Interpret and implement sequences of operation, control strategies, project specifications, and design documents.
  • Serve as a technical resource and provide field leadership for project teams, service technicians, and customers.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and customers to support successful project execution.
  • Perform advanced system analysis, performance testing, energy optimization, and operational improvements.
  • Lead commissioning activities and verify system functionality, integration, and overall performance.
  • Review project documentation, drawings, submittals, and control narratives to ensure accuracy and constructability.
  • Support project planning, labor forecasting, scheduling, and field execution strategies.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support for service calls, including critical and emergency situations.
  • Train, mentor, and develop Controls Technician I and Controls Technician II team members through hands-on instruction and technical guidance.
  • Deliver customer training and technical consultation regarding system operation, maintenance, and best practices.
  • Assist with estimating, design reviews, scope development, and project turnover activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, customer requirements, industry standards, and applicable codes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of programming changes, commissioning reports, service records, and project activities.
  • Participate in on-call and after-hours support as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
