Job Description Installation Technician - CNC & Automation
The Installation Technician is responsible for installing, commissioning, servicing, and troubleshooting CNC machinery and automated equipment at customer facilities. This is a hands‑on field position for a mechanically inclined technician who enjoys working with sophisticated machinery, solving problems in the field, and interacting directly with customers.
The role requires approximately
40-50% travel
, with travel assignments generally limited to
one week or less at a time
. When not traveling, the Installation Technician will work alongside the engineering, manufacturing, and service teams to prepare equipment, troubleshoot systems, and support ongoing projects.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience
installing, servicing, commissioning, or troubleshooting CNC machinery
and a strong mechanical background.
Experience with
hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical systems
is required.

- Install, commission, and service CNC machinery and automated equipment at customer facilities.
- Perform mechanical installation, alignment, leveling, setup, and adjustment of machinery.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
- Assist with machine startup, commissioning, testing, and customer acceptance.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation.
- Connect and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Diagnose basic electrical and control-related issues and work with engineering or controls personnel when necessary.
- Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and equipment modifications.
- Identify machine performance issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Work closely with customers, engineers, controls technicians, and other field service personnel.
- Provide customers with basic operational and maintenance guidance following installation.
- Document service activities, installation progress, issues, and corrective actions.
- Maintain a professional and customer-focused approach while working at customer facilities.
- Follow company and customer safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
- Travel approximately
40-50%, with individual assignments typically lasting no more than one week.
- Previous hands‑on experience
installing, servicing, commissioning, or troubleshooting CNC machinery
. - Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
- Working knowledge of
hydraulic and pneumatic systems
. - Working knowledge of
basic electrical systems and components
. - Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation.
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and standard mechanical/electrical diagnostic equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in customer environments while also collaborating with internal engineering and service teams.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel
40-50%, generally for no more than one week at a time. - Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
