As a Field Technician Intern
, you'll gain hands‑on experience supporting the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of low-voltage and building technology systems. You'll work alongside experienced technicians and project teams in the field while developing technical, problem‑solving, and professional skills.
This is a paid internship located in Indianapolis, IN, with flexible start and end dates from May to August 2027. Interns must be available to work up to 40 hours per week, for at least 10 weeks.
What You'll Do
- Assist experienced Field Technicians with installations, configuration, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of low-voltage and building technology systems.
- Learn to use specialized software, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, laptops, tablets, and other technology to install and troubleshoot systems.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, sequences of operation, and engineering specifications.
- Assist with system testing, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Gain exposure to HVAC, building automation, security, audio visual, networking, and other low-voltage technologies.
- Assist with gathering materials, tools, and equipment and coordinating on-site work requirements.
- Learn to monitor system performance and use available data to identify issues and opportunities for improved system operation.
- Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, project managers, and team members while supporting field activities.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, system changes, and equipment conditions.
- Follow all company, customer, and job-site safety requirements.
- Maintain security and accountability of company-issued tools, equipment, and technology.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program, technical program, engineering program, or trade program related to electrical, mechanical, engineering design, HVAC, building automation, or a related technical field.
- Previous coursework, work experience, or hands‑on experience with electrical systems, HVAC, controls, low-voltage systems, networking, or building technologies is a plus.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, or technical documentation is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A growth mindset dedicated to continuous learning and improvement.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel to customer job sites, which may involve outdoor work and environments such as mechanical or equipment rooms.
- Preference will be given to local candidates; no relocation or housing stipend is available for this position.
- Must possess US work authorization and not require sponsorship for an employment visa by Envelop Group at any time in the future.
