Maintenance Technician Internship

The Maintenance Technician Internship provides students with hands‑on experience supporting campus mechanical systems and infrastructure; while exploring careers in building maintenance, HVAC technology, plumbing, electrical and/or mechanical service work. This position requires hands‑on work to diagnose issues and implement effective solutions promptly. Attention to detail is essential to uphold quality standards and comply with safety regulations. Ultimately, the Maintenance Technician Intern contributes to a safe, efficient, and well‑maintained environment that supports overall campus community.

• Physical ability to climb ladders and perform manual labor.
• Good hearing and verbal communication skills to understand instructions and interact with team members.
• Currently enrolled with Heartland Career Center.

• Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance standards in maintenance work.
• First aid and OSHA safety awareness.

• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical wiring, structural components and fleet vehicles.
• Assist staff with diagnosing and repairing issues related to mechanical equipment, plumbing leaks, electrical faults, and drywall damage.
• Use precision measuring tools to ensure accurate installation and repair of components.
• Safely climb ladders and access elevated areas to conduct maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to report issues and coordinate maintenance activities.

The ability to climb ladders safely allows access to hard‑to‑reach areas for inspection and maintenance tasks. Effective communication skills, including the ability to talk and hear clearly, facilitate collaboration with colleagues and ensure clear understanding of maintenance needs and safety protocols.
