Overview
The Assistant Detention Officer Supervisor is a vital position at the Marion County Youth Services Center, tasked with safeguarding the welfare of detained youths. This role is centered around ensuring a secure, nurturing environment that addresses the physical, emotional, and mental health needs of the youth in custody.
This is a third shift position, generally 10p-6:30a.
Position Responsibilities- Functions in an overall supportive role in the facility technically and as a leader. Performs a variety of technical and/or administrative tasks to serve as a support to each security post within the facility.
- Serves as a trusted liaison and role model. Assists in developing an overall atmosphere of care and concern for the safety and security of youth and staff.
- Organizes, oversees, and distributes duties among employees to ensure the efficient operation of the Center and/or the assigned Unit Team.
- Supports the Detention Officer Supervisor in ensuring facility compliance with all applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
- Reviews, reports, and corrects situations that may be detrimental to the safety and security of youth or staff, or to the integrity of the secure perimeter of the facility. Schedules periodic contraband searches.
- In conjunction with the Detention Officer Supervisor, evaluates individual staff performance, identifying both efficiencies and deficiencies. Develops improvement plans, corrective actions, and tracks staff progress.
- Ensures employees under their supervision are following Youth Services Center policies, training, rules, and procedures, working with those employees who are not in compliance to gain compliance.
- Assists with conducting new hire interviews to evaluate candidate qualifications and alignment with facility values.
- Other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or equivalent is required, with college preferred. Two years of experience in a direct service role in detention facilities, shelter care facilities, corrections or other human service programs is strongly preferred. Good knowledge base of the child welfare and juvenile justice system is essential.
Leadership skills are essential. Demonstrated ability to professionally collaborate with others, implement critical thinking, promote a positive working environment, and operate with the highest level of confidentiality.
Strong verbal and written communication skills required, as well as proven computer skills. Must maintain strong boundaries with co-workers.
Must be able to work any shift if needed. Minimum age requirement is 25.
Salary and BenefitsSalary enhancements available for Associates or Bachelors degree as well as bilingual skills. Shift differential is applicable for third shift.
