PositionFirefly Children & Family Alliance is currently seeking a full-time and part-time Teaching Specialist for our children's shelter. As a Teaching Specialist, you are responsible for teaching sound social, academic, and independent living skills to youth placed in the shelter care facility through the Teaching Family Model in order to promote positive behavior change based on each youth's individualized behavior management plan.
ScheduleThis position is scheduled on second shift, with hours of 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Candidates must be available to work at least one weekend shift per week. Part‑time staff are required to attend two separate weeks of in‑person orientation and training, which take place Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
You Will Childcare (80%)- Courteously communicate and collaborate with all staff and supervisors in order to provide healthy day‑to‑day care of children.
- Patiently establish and maintain meaningful positive relationships with children as outlined in each behavior care plan using the Teaching Family Model (TFM).
- Consistently maintain a daily, structured routine that includes extracurricular activities in and outside of the facility to promote healthy habits based on children's developmental needs.
- Conscientiously model and teach youth various life skills such as appropriate social interaction, self‑care including personal hygiene and self‑maintenance including household chores and food preparation.
- Accurately follow de‑escalation procedures in response to crises by identifying and implementing appropriate verbal techniques from the TFM or prescribed in an individualized behavior support plan; attempt to reduce or eliminate the need for physical restraint.
- Thoroughly complete all required paperwork on time in accordance with TFM requirements.
- Diligently oversee medication administration according to agency policy and accurately maintain medication logs.
- Meticulously maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility in compliance with regulations.
- Continually maintain the academic structure within the facility.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous leadership experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective organization & time management skills.
- Candidate must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver's license with 6 points or less on driving record.
