As a School Based Support Specialist, you will provide intensive outpatient case management and behavioral health support services to youth within school settings. This role focuses on helping students build coping skills, improve social-emotional functioning, strengthen daily living skills, and achieve treatment goals that support success in school, home, and community environments. You will collaborate closely with families, schools, community partners, and treatment providers to ensure coordinated, person-centered care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide behavioral health interventions aligned with individualized treatment goals in school-based settings
  • Support students in developing coping skills, social-emotional functioning, and daily living skills
  • Coordinate care with schools, families, community agencies, and internal treatment teams
  • Manage assigned caseloads while ensuring services remain effective, person-centered, and timely documented
  • Provide crisis intervention, outreach, and follow-up support for students and families
  • Conduct home visits and community outreach to support engagement and continuity of care
  • Assist with quality assurance activities, data collection, and compliance with agency and contractual requirements
  • Participate in staff development, supervision, and ongoing professional evaluation activities
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency, state, and accreditation standards
  • Adapt to changing student and program needs with flexibility and collaboration
  • Represent the organization professionally within schools and the community
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership
Education and/or Experience

Qualifications:

Candidates must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioral Health, or related human services field; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field with two (2) years of related behavioral health experience; OR
  • Any four-year combination of higher education and two (2) years of qualifying behavioral health experience; OR
  • Associate’s degree in Applied Science in Behavioral Health Support; OR
  • Four (4) years of full-time qualifying experience in the behavioral health field
Qualifying experience includes:
  • Providing individual or group behavioral health services
  • Supporting recovery and resiliency goals
  • Teaching coping and life skills
  • Supporting school, community, or employment functioning
  • Implementing treatment plan objectives
Required License/Certification:
  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance required
  • Illinois-based positions may require CADC, MHP, CRSS, or other qualifying behavioral health credentials based on program requirements
Additional Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of case management, treatment planning, and behavioral health rehabilitation practices
  • Understanding of challenges faced by individuals with mental health and/or substance use conditions
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with youth, families, schools, and community providers
  • Strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills
  • Experience utilizing electronic health record systems and standard office software
  • Ability to respond effectively in crisis situations while maintaining professional boundaries
